You can now find out the cost of your bouquet using the TRAI DTH channel selection emulator

TRAI ruling allows users to choose and pay for the DTH channels they want.

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has launched a DTH channel selection emulator. Using the emulator, users can check how much the channels they select will cost before heading to their DTH operator’s website or app to select the channels.

Step 1: Fill up the login credentials in TRAI official website

The site ( https://channel.trai.gov.in )  first asks you for your name and State/Union Territory where you are. These are optional. In the next screen, you have to provide the languages you need and the type of channels in the next. You have the option of modifying the languages and the type of channels later.

Step 2: Select your preferred
DTH channel plan

Next, it asks you whether you want HD, SD or both. You can start selecting the channels from the next screen. You can also select broadcaster bouquets.

As you select the channels, the MRP will continue to be updated in the Top-bar. If you select a free channel and inclusion of this channel does not affect your NCF, then the value will not change. However, if you add a pay channel without changing the NCF slab, then the value will increase by the price of the additional channel you chose.

You can select or deselect channels as per your wish. This is similar to a shopping cart in your online shopping experience. After selecting all channels of your choice (FTA, A-La-carte pay channels, Bouquets of pay channels), view your selected channels by pressing tab “view your selection”.

Step 3: Get DTH offers by using optimise option

The View Selection screen on top will show the details of the channels. The Optimise button will allow you to ‘optimise’ your selection.

The Application attempts to optimise your bill by checking if there are bouquets on offer which will reduce your total monthly bill without reducing the channels you have selected.

Provision has also been made to download or take print out of your channel selection along with optimised price of TV selection.

Step 4: Download or print the list of DTH channels

You can now download your selection or print and use the info when you select channels with your broadcaster.

How subscription works

The subscription has two components. One is the Network Capacity Fee (NCF), which is like a rental. The other is the prices of any pay channels.

The NCF will cost Rs 130 per month, which includes 100 TV channels including any FTA (Free To Air), pay channel or a bouquet(s) of pay channels.  If you want to watch more than 100 channels, you will be charged an additional amount of Rs. 20 for 25 additional channels a part thereof. For instance, if  you want to watch 110 channels, you may be charged an amount not exceeding Rs 150 (Rs 130 + Rs 20) per month. If you want to watch 150 channels, you pay another 20 rupees for the slab 125-150 channels.
