IT hardware companies to get 10% subsidy for upgradation in AP

Information Technology hardware companies in Andhra Pradesh will get a subsidy of 10 per cent on the expenditure they incur for upgrading facilities.

“They will get a subsidy not exceeding Rs 25 lakh when they buy new equipment to upgrade their capacities and performance,” Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information Technology, told Business Line .

“We are the first State in the country to have a dedicated policy for the development of IT hardware. We have announced several sops for the new companies. We then thought that we should do something for the existing hardware units too,” he said.

The State is home to 300 hardware units with annual turnover of Rs 6,000 crore.

On the Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) project, he said the State is expecting a positive development in a “day or two.” “We have received all the statutory permissions and go-aheads from all the relevant Central Ministries. We are just awaiting the final nod. We have strong signals from the Centre that we will hear an announcement soon,” he said.

The ITIR project, an infrastructure development scheme announced by the Centre, is aimed at building commercial and residential infrastructure in Hyderabad, connecting the two IT hubs of Madhapur and Gachibowli with Uppal, a new centre of IT growth. The State Government will also tap a Central scheme to develop 16 clusters in the State. “We are planning 7 clusters for IT development in the State capital and nine in the tier-ii and tier-ii cities. Each clusters will get investment of Rs 50 crore for the development of infrastructure,” the IT Minister said.
