Rajesh Rege quits Red Hat to join Microsoft

After nearly four years as Managing Director of Red Hat India, Rajesh Rege started on a new role with Microsoft effective July 12 as Country General Manager & Leader – Solutions & Cloud Technologies Group.

He will report to Anant Maheshwari, President, Microsoft India, and will be part of the senior leadership team. In his new role, Rege will lead a team of sales specialists, subject matter experts and technical staff to enable the digital transformation of businesses and government bodies in India.

While Rege was unavailable for comment, his LinkedIn post read: “After nearly 4 years as MD, Red Hat India, it’s time for a new beginning with Microsoft as Country General Manager & Leader – Solutions & Cloud Technologies Group. Also taking this opportunity to thank my well wishers in customer, partner, media & analyst communities as well as Red Hatters for their strong backing and support in making my tenure at Red Hat a truly memorable one.”

At Red Hat, Rege helped the company establish firmly in India and South Asia.

He acquired several thousands of new customers with inroads into new sectors/segments; set up new offices, built a dynamic, action-oriented team who in turn have made Red Hat a magnet for great talent. He also worked closely with policy makers and industry associations (member CII national committee on IT/ITES) to champion open source & Red Hat.

Prior to Red Hat, Rege was Director & Country Head (Data Centre & Cloud), India & SAARC at Cisco for four years and has 30 years of experience in the IT industry, having worked with Sun Microsystems, Wipro Infotech, among others.
