New strategy: N.R. Narayan Murthy, Executive Chairman.—PTI

Infosys’ Executive Chairman N.R. Narayana Murthy today said that his son would not be involved in major decision making.

Addressing employees in Bangalore, Narayana Murthy said that Rohan Murty, along with a small team, would assist him in charting out new strategies. One such strategy, he said, was to enhance focus on large software application development maintenance, technology infrastructure and remotely manage a company’s IT assets related projects.

Narayana Murthy’s remarks come in the backdrop of criticism in some quarters that his move to bring his son as his Executive Assistant as a way to groom him for the CEO post.

The appointment has also raised the question of succession planning in the company, which prides itself on having a strong leadership team. “They need to put together a clear succession plan,” said C.K. Guruprasad, Principal of management consulting firm Heidrick & Struggles. Some others believe that Rohan Murty has the credentials, being a Harvard graduate.

“As an Executive Assistant, he can get a macro view of Infosys at present,” said Santhosh Babu, MD of learning and development consultancy firm organisation Development Alternatives.
