RV-VLSI, a Bangalore-based finishing school specifically targeted at the VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) segment plans to set up such schools in the southern and western regions this year.

Beginning with five schools in Andhra Pradesh, RV-VLSI will establish centres in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra in phases.

The company will start five finishing schools in Andhra Pradesh by the end of March.

Though India has emerged a VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) player globally, it, in fact, is starving for qualified human resources as engineering colleges are not able to produce the required numbers for the industry, Mr Venkatesh Prasad, Chief Executive Officer of RV-VLSI, said.

Quoting Nasscom (the National Association of Software and Services Companies), he said the country would need 7.5-lakh industry-ready VLSI engineers by 2015.

Huge demand

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said there was huge demand for VLSI engineers. “Entry-level salaries start from Rs 6 lakh. But the emphasis in engineering colleges is more on academics than on application, keeping students unemployable,” he said.

To help engineering graduates in preparing their resumes, the company started an online resume builder using which job aspirants could provide vital details that an employer looks for. “We have built this after talking to several companies and finding out the criteria they look for while recruiting,” Mr Prasad said.
