Truecaller, an app that lets users find caller identification of unknown numbers, may look at monetisation of its service by the year-end, according to Kari Krishnamurthy, Vice-President (Growth and Partnership), Asia, and Country Manager, India.
The Stockholm-based company has so far not charged users to download its apps that now include Truemessenger for SMS and Truedialer. It has totally raised nearly $80 million from venture capitalists Sequoia, Atomico and Kleiner Perkis Caufiled Byers. Employees are paid their salaries from this fund, he said.
Out of the global 150 million users, Truecaller has 80 million users in India, making it the largest user-base in the world. Nearly 1.50 lakh users are registered every day in India. By December-end, Krishnamurthy expects the user base in India to reach nearly 150 million and globally to around 300 million, he said.
The company has partnerships in India with Twitter, Tata Docomo, Microsoft, Micromax and Gionee, he said.
