Vodafone Idea’s (Vi) 5G services will be available in Bengaluru starting Wednesday, as part of the company’s paln to roll out the service in all 17 priority circles by August 2025. The telco previously launched the service in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Patna and Chandigarh.
As an introductory offer, Vi is providing unlimited 5G data to users on plans starting from ₹299. Further, it partnered with Samsung to deploy energy-efficient infrastructure and implemented AI-powered Self-Organizing Networks (SON) to optimize network performance. The use of such technology with small form-factor radios enabled green solutions for 5G, said Vi.
Alongside its 5G expansion, Vi also upgraded its 4G network in Karnataka to deliver better coverage, data speeds and user experience. It has deployed 900 MHz spectrum on nearly 3,000 sites to strengthen indoor coverage, doubled 2100 MHz spectrum capacity across 1800 sites, and added 2100 MHz spectrum to another 1,000 locations. Vi has also bolstered its 1800 MHz capacity across more than 4,100 sites, enhancing both reach and data traffic handling capabilities. The telco said these upgrades implemented over 10 months have led to a 46 per cent capacity increase from March 2024.
Anand Dani, Business Head – Karnataka, Vodafone Idea, said, “Encouraged by the strong response and robust performance in our launched markets, we are committed to expanding our 5G footprint in line with growing demand and 5G handset adoption.”
