Blackstone cuts 8% stake in Mphasis

Marble II Pte Ltd, a unit owned by PE firm Blackstone, today sold 8 per cent stake in the IT company at Rs 960 per share.

The price at which the PE firm sold the stake was more than double it paid for buying stake in the Bengaluru-based IT services firm. Aberdeen, T Rowe Price and Oppenheimer were buyers for the stake.

However, the private equity major clarified that it is committed to remain a long-term majority shareholder in Mphasis and did not intend to sell any additional stake in the company.

As of March 31, 2018, Blackstone through its unit Marble II Pte held 60.38 per cent stake in Mphasis. In April 2016, Blackstone had bought HP's 60.5 per cent stake in Mphasis at Rs 430 per share and made an open offer at Rs 457 per share in 2016.

At 11.20 am, Mphasis shares were trading up by 1.45 per cent at Rs 999 on the BSE.
