BSE Institute Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of BSE Ltd, has launched a new accelerator for start-ups.

This accelerator is set up by BSE Institute in collaboration with Ryerson Futures Inc (Toronto), the technical arm of Ryerson University from Ontario, Canada.

The accelerator will focus on scalable, technology start-ups (both enterprise and consumer). Besides, it will help recreate in India the successful model of the Digital Media Zone (DMZ) - Ryerson's flagship programme in Toronto which has been operational since 2010 and incubated over 150 start-ups.

This has been set up as a technology based incubator under the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Zone Startups India is the only stand-alone accelerator programme in India to be accredited this support.

Ambarish Datta, Managing Director and CEO, BSE Institute, said: “At the BSE Institute, we are happy to participate in the start-up India initiative through this venture. This is a true nation building activity, since in addition to providing a platform for budding start-ups, we also contribute to job creation through hundreds of jobs and internships at the start-ups that we are mentoring in our accelerator.''

This initiative is in line with the start-up India mission envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With India becoming the youngest nation in the world, job generation is a critical priority and the start-ups emerging from this zone will support job creation. The start-up zone will also be a major innovation hub that will evolve technology based solutions to address a gamut of business challenges, he said.

Datta said the momentous occasion also marked the completion of two years of successfully mentoring over 66 successful start-ups in India. The occasion was graced by a ministerial delegation of Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario, Canada. The delegation included Honourable Michael Chan, Minister for Citizenship, Inmmigration and International Trade, Honourable Brad Duguid, Minister for Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, and Dipika Damerla, Associate Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.
