50% of turmeric unsold in Erode

Only fifty per cent of the arrived turmeric was sold at Erode markets on Wednesday. “Expecting some fresh upcountry demand,, the traders purchased limited turmeric for their requirement.

They selected only the fine and medium variety turmeric,” said RKV Ravishankar, a trader. He said 3,400 bags arrived for sale. The finger variety was up by ₹200-300 a quintal and the root variety by ₹400.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,860-8,437 a quintal and the root variety at ₹5,679-7,900. Of the arrived 2016 bags, only 733 were sold.
