MMTC invites bids for 37,000 t pulses import

State-owned trading firm MMTC has invited bids for the import of 37,000 tonnes of pulses for sale in the domestic market.

The bids will close on April 28 and a decision on awarding the contract will be taken on the same day, the company said on its website.

The company said that the bidders should source 6,000 tonnes of black matpe (urad) from Myanmar, 3,000 tonnes each of desi chick peas (chana) from Australia and Pigeon Peas (arhar) from Myanmar. The bidders also have to source 25,000 tonnes of yellow peas from Canada, it added.

Black matpe and pigeon peas should be from the current crop year, while the other pulses of 2010-11 year, it said, adding that the shipment should reach Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai ports by May.

Bids should be made for a minimum quantity of 10,000 tonnes for yellow peas and 3,000 tonnes for other pulses, the company said.

MMTC, PEC and other state-run trading agencies like STC import different varieties of pulses on behalf of the Government to augment the domestic supply.
