Cardamom prices fell by Rs 9.40 to Rs 1,027 a kg in futures trade today due to sluggish demand at existing higher levels.

Fresh arrivals in the spot market from producing belts also put pressure on futures prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in July fell by Rs 9.40 or 0.90 per cent to Rs 1,027 a kg with a business turnover of 19 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in June shed Rs 9.10 or 0.88 per cent at Rs 1,022 a kg with a business turnover of 33 lots.

Cardamom for May delivery contract moved down by Rs 7 or 0.69 per cent to Rs 1,000 a kg with a business volume of 45 lots.

Analysts said besides profit-booking, fall in demand at existing higher levels against fresh arrivals in the physical market also led to the fall in prices at futures trade.
