Turmeric loses colour on local demand

Turmeric prices rose by Rs 86 to Rs 9,670 a quintal in futures trade today as speculators indulged in creating fresh positions, driven by a rise in demand at the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in May moved up by Rs 86 or 0.90 per cent to Rs 9,670 a quintal, with an open interest of 8,850 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in April increased by Rs 70 or 0.68 per cent to Rs 10,302 a quintal, with a business turnover of 6,950 lots.

Analysts said speculators enlarged their positions following pick-up in demand at the domestic markets.
