About 94 per cent of the offer at Sale No: 10 of the auctions of Coonoor Tea Trade Association was sold despite the average price rising to ₹101.65 a kg from last week’s ₹100.40 due to better demand from upcountry buyers in the context of low supplies in the North.
Homedale Estate tea, auctioned by Global Tea Brokers, topped the entire auction when Tea Services India P Ltd bought it for ₹271 a kg. This price exceeded even the price of export-oriented orthodox teas from corporate sector.
In the CTC Leaf auction, Pinewood Estate topped at ₹211 a kg. Two grades of Vigneshwar Estate, auctioned by Paramount Tea Marketing, fetched ₹201 and ₹200 respectively.
Among orthodox teas, Kodanad topped at ₹246 a kg followed by Kairbetta ₹245, Chamraj ₹241, Havukal ₹217 and Vigneshwar orthodox ₹206.
