A volume of 9.74 lakh kg has been catalogued for Sale No: 14 of the Coonoor Tea Trade Association scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
This is about 6,000 kg more than last week’s offer. Still, it is among the lowest volumes of the past several months.
Of the 9.74 lakh kg offered, as much as 8.58 lakh kg belongs to CTC variety and only 1.16 lakh kg to the orthodox variety.
The proportion of orthodox teas continues to be low in both leaf and dust grades. In the leaf counter, only 72,000 kg belongs to orthodox while 5.72 lakh kg is CTC. Among dusts, only 44,000 kg is orthodox while 2.86 lakh kg is CTC.
In all, 6.44 lakh kg belongs to Leaf grades and 3.30 lakh kg to Dust grades.
