Silver prices fell 0.2 per cent to Rs 55,080 per kg at the futures trade today as participants trimmed their positions even as the metal strengthened overseas.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver for delivery in July fell Rs 108 or 0.2 per cent to Rs 55,080 per kg in a business turnover of 90 lots.

Similarly, the white metal for delivery in May declined by Rs 92 or 0.17 per cent to Rs 53,970 per kg in a business volume of 828 lots.

Market analysts attributed the fall in silver prices at the futures trade to partial off-loading of positions by speculators due to subdued spot demand, but a firming trend overseas capped the fall.

In the international market, silver rose 0.4 per cent to $28.79 an ounce in Singapore.
