Tea auction prices rise 5.32% during Apr-Jan

Tea prices in the different auction centres across the country during the current fiscal till last month have risen 5.32 per cent over the same months of 2017-18.

According to the latest data available with the Tea Board of India, the average auction prices from April 2018 to January 2019 have risen to ₹142.58 a kg from ₹135.38 from April 2017 to January 2018.

This means that the prices have increased by ₹7.20 a kg or 5.32 per cent in the current fiscal compared to last year.

The increase was more in South Indian auctions than in North India.

In the South, the average prices rose to ₹101.99 a kg from ₹92.50, marking a gain of ₹9.49 a kg or 10.26 per cent.

In the North Indian auctions, the average price rose to ₹154.55 a kg from ₹148.01. This increase of ₹6.54 marked a growth of 4.42 per cent.
