Turmeric gains colour on spot demand

Turmeric prices recovered by over one per cent in futures trade today on pick up in spot demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric prices for delivery in April rose by Rs 100 or 1.03 per cent to Rs 9,832 a quintal, with an open interest of 5,980 lots.

The spice for delivery in May gained Rs 96 or 1.01 per cent to Rs 9,648 a quintal, with an open interest of 3,805 lots.

Traders said the rise in prices at the futures trade was attributed to pick up in demand at the spot market but increased arrivals in local markets and weak export demand, restricted gains.
