The rupee ended almost flat at 54.16 against the dollar on mild capital flows and firm domestic and Asian equity markets.

The Indian unit opened 4 paise higher at 54.10 from Tuesday’s close of 54.14 on the back of positive domestic and Asian markets.

The unit further strengthened to 54.04 on sustained capital flows and dollar selling before declining to 54.18 in a relatively flat trading session at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market.

The BSE-benchmark Sensex closed about 100 points higher (up 0.51 per cent) at 19,990 points.

Capital inflows and dollar selling by exporters is likely to support the Indian currency during the week, dealers said.
