The rupee was trading lower by 9 paise at a fresh two-week low of 66.67 in the evening session on increased demand for the American currency from importers.

Besides, strength in the US dollar against other overseas currencies and a weak domestic equity market also kept pressure on the domestic unit, dealers said.

In early trade, the rupee opened weak by 10 paise at 66.68 against the previous close of 66.58. It further weakened to 66.74 before quoting at 66.67 at 5.00 pm local time.

The domestic currency hovered in a range of 66.74 and 66.66 in the morning trade.

Yesterday, the rupee had ended lower by 4 paise, hitting 2-week low of 66.58, on fag-end dollar demand from banks and importers amid higher greenback in the global markets, despite a sharp recovery in domestic equities.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex ended higher by 83.67 points or 0.33 per cent at 25,772.53.
