Metal, capital goods stocks push Sensex up 131 points

The Indian markets managed to pare losses in the afternoon session on Thursday, the last trading day of this fiscal and also the expiry of the March series to finally close in the green.

The BSE Sensex closed at 18,836, up 0.70 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was trading at 5,683, up 0.73 per cent.

Except auto all the sectoral indices closed in the green on the BSE, led by metals and capital goods, which closed up by over 2 per cent.

On the NSE, Siemens, GAIL, Hindalco, HCL Tech and Ambuja Cement were the top gainers, while Heromotocorp, Tata Motors, Airtel, Maruti and Bajaj Auto were the top losers.
