Metals, capital goods stocks take a hit

Metals and capital goods stocks took a pounding in the markets today, with their indices becoming the biggest losers on the BSE.

In the capital goods space, engineering major L&T was the biggest loser and having the highest weightage on the CG index, was worst hit. L&T shed Rs 37.35 to go down to Rs 1308. ABB, which lost Rs 19.95 at Rs 821.05; Siemens, which was down by Rs 17.20 at Rs 770.65; and BEL, which shed Rs 19.60 at Rs 1494.95, were among the other major losers.

Among the metal stocks, JSW Steel, which lost Rs 29.15 at Rs 689.50; Jindal Steel, which drifted down to Rs 509.55, a loss of Rs 16.35; Tata Steel that lost Rs 11.20 at Rs 463.50; Bhushan Steel that was down by Rs 11.95 at Rs 399.90; and Sesa Goa, which lost Rs 5.10 at Rs 189.55, were the major losers.

The capital goods index was down by about 253 points and the metal index shed 293 points on the BSE.
