Sensex ends marginally lower

The markets closed the session on Friday on a flat note. The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended the day down 18.85 points and 8 points respectively.

European stocks also rose on hopes that Euro leaders would hasten their decisions on the crisis. There was also positivity after China’s GDP numbers. Asian stocks were marginally down. European stocks were up by about 0.6 per cent and American markets were up by about 0.4 per cent.

"Inflation figures will be announced on July 14 and the RBI policy is also awaited on July 31. These events may also have a short-term impact on the market movement,” said Mr Rakesh Goel, Senior Vice-President, Bonanza Portfolio.

The top gainers on the BSE were Hero MotoCorp, HDFC Bank and TCS, while the top losers were Jindal Steel, Hindalco and Tata Power.
