The Indian stock markets ended deeply in the red on Monday with the BSE Sensex losing over 300 points and the Nifty down by about 94 points in the wake of substantial losses suffered by Dow Jones index on Friday and overall weak global markets today.

The extent of the loss could be gauged from the fact that nearly two thirds of the 50-share Nifty closed with losses — 33 losers to 17 gainers. Even for some of the gainers, the gains were very negligible.

For the ADAG group, though, there was some relief as four group companies — Reliance Capital, Reliance Power, Reliance Infra and RCom ended positively.

Among the top gainers in the Nifty, it was the PSU oil major BPCL that posted the highest gain of 4.38 per cent to close at Rs 676.20. Other gainers included RPower, Reliance Capital, GAIL, Cipla and ONGC.

Real estate company DLF led the Nifty losers, losing 8.77 per cent to close at Rs 199.70. The next four major losers were from the metal pack — Jindal Steel, Hindalco, Tata Steel and SAIL.

While the Sensex closed at 16,151.45 points (-302.31), the Nifty closed at 4849.50 (-93.75).
