The Nifty closed on Tuesday very close to scaling the 5,000 mark yet again. It closed at 4,967, up 93 points while the Sensex closed at 16,466, up 277 points.

Analysts said that positive cues from the Asian bourses and a positive start by Europe were the main reasons for such a strong close.

“At 9.2 per cent, China has shown lower GDP growth than what it had logged in earlier and all of Asia is in the green despite this,” said a dealer from an Indian brokerage.

All the indices on the NSE closed in the green barring CNX media and the India Vix. The India Vix was down six per cent and closed at 22.61.

Maruti, Hindalco, JP Associates, L&T and Tata Steel were the top five Nifty gainers while Ranbaxy, ICICI Bank, GAIL, TCS and Dr Reddy’s were the top five losers.
