Vodafone Idea (Vi) shares traded at ₹7.46 on June 30, 2025 at 10.45 am, gaining 1.08 per cent from the previous close of ₹7.38, despite reporting subscriber losses in May 2025. The stock touched a high of ₹7.50 in the morning trading session.
Vi lost 274,103 wireless subscribers in May 2025, according to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) data, reducing its market share to 17.61 per cent with 204.44 million subscribers. The losses occurred as India’s total wireless subscriber base grew from 1,158.93 million in April to 1,161.03 million in May, reflecting a 0.18 per cent monthly growth rate.
The telecom sector remains dominated by private operators with a 92.14 per cent market share, while public sector operators BSNL and MTNL hold 7.86 per cent. Jio and Airtel continue expanding their subscriber base through competitive tariffs and 5G network rollouts, intensifying pressure on Vi and BSNL.
In the wireline segment, Vi added 1,795 subscribers, maintaining a 2.12 per cent market share. Jio led wireline growth with 1.276 million new subscribers for a 37.44 per cent share, while Airtel added 99,246 subscribers with a 26.65 per cent share.
Vi has reduced its directorship threshold to 10 per cent for non-government shareholders as part of ongoing corporate restructuring efforts. The company continues facing challenges in subscriber retention amid fierce competition from larger rivals investing heavily in network infrastructure and service quality improvements.
