The State Level Bankers' Committee, Andhra Pradesh has asked lead district mangers to monitor field visits of bank staff to improve banking services.

Addressing the lead district managers of the State at a meeting held here on Thursday, Mr B.A. Prabhakar, Chairman and Managing Director, Andhra Bank and President of SLBC, said field visits to villages were essential under financial inclusion plan.

The targets for financing all farmers and non-farmers households should be completed by April 2012.

Banking in rural areas

Banks in the State had achieved the target of providing banking services in 6,640 villages with a population of above 2,000 by March 2012.

All banks have decided to undertake special campaigns in these villages and rural and semi-urban branches to open savings bank accounts to all households.

There is a need to coordinate between banks and the Government for improving recovery performance and better recycling of banks' funds, Mr Prabhakar said.

Mr K.K. Mishra, Executive Director, Andhra Bank asked lead district managers to achieve 100 per cent targets in opening of accounts at the earliest to facilitate e-payments in all Government-sponsored schemes.

Mr Mohaniah, Chief General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, said his bank would open 2,000 farmers clubs during the present financial year.

About 7,000 farmers' clubs were already functioning in the State, he added.
