Banks Board Bureau (BBB), which is now headed by former DoPT Secretary BP Sharma, has recommended 22 General Managers of various public sector banks (PSBs) to be elevated as Executive Directors in PSBs.

These recommendations are subject to various clearances, including from Central Vigilance Commission. While the BBB selects the candidates, the final appointment has to come from the government.

Meanwhile, the interviews for filling the dozen vacancies of Managing Director & CEO in various PSBs, are now slated to take place later this week, sources said.

Nearly 20 Executive Directors have been called for the interviews, they added.

GM-to-EDs

The shortlisting of the 22 GMs for being appointed as Executive Directors in various banks comes on the basis of interactions held by the BBB with eligible candidates in mid-June this year.

This is the first major exercise undertaken by the BBB after the advisory body was reconstituted in April this year.

Shortlisted candidates

The General Managers shortlisted include Sanjay Agarwal; Agyey Kumar Azad; Ajit Kumar Das; Shanti Lal Jain; PR Rajagopal; K Srinivasa Rao, Usha Ravi and K Ramachandran.

Nearly 40 General Managers were called for interviews. Interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal had recently said that the government would fill the top-level vacancies at PSBs in a month.
