An indefinite strike launched by the Dhanlaxmi Bank Officers’ Organisation against termination of services of a union leader has entered the tenth day.
The organisation, an affiliate of the All-India Bank Officers’ Confederation (Aiboc), is demanding revocation of the summarily termination of the services of PV Mohanan, general secretary.
No notice servedIt alleged that no notice was served on him before the termination of services. Neither was any inquiry carried out into the matter, reflecting the ‘high-handedness’ of the management.
Mohanan has put in 37 years of service and has served as general secretary of the union for 25 years. He has only eight months for normal retirement, union activists said. Alleging that he was denied natural justice, officers belonging to the Aiboc have struck work since June 12.
It has threatened to extend the strike country-wide and across officers and employee cadres if no amicable solution was found ‘within a reasonable time.’

A notice for strike was served for May 29 and 30 after the union ran out of options. The management had stonewalled any attempt to bilaterally discuss the issue, the unionists said.
