The abundant mustard fields of Rajasthan serve as vibrant breeding ground for beekeepers in the State.

Beekeeping or apiculture, its scientific name, has grown into a full fledged profession here, especially in Bharatpur district where marginal farmers and their families have been trained in the art of maintaining honey bee colonies in box hives and extracting the nectar for an extra income. The district has slowly become a hub for collection of honey from other parts of the country as well, its sale and even its export. Several companies, national and international, visit the district to buy the commodity wholesale for processing. Photos: Kamal Narang
