Asianet Broadband has selected Cisco to deploy Docsis 3.0, a next-generation cable broadband network. It is a key component of Cisco’s next-generation internet protocol architecture.

This technology will increase upstream and downstream speeds to Asianet broadband customers by offering up to 300 mbps per subscriber.

Asianet Dataline is a leading Internet service provider among the class-B licensees.

The deployment will allow Asianet to offer broadband services with bandwidth that the spokesman said will be superior to that of mobile Internet service providers.

Docsis 3.0 technology allows cable operators to reuse their existing cable to offer broadband services by upgrading them to two-way networks. It will offer an immersive video experience on the same coaxial cable that delivers quality digital video.

Asianet plans to fast-track the deployment of Docsis 3.0 modems to deliver ‘impressive’ Internet surfing experience to its two lakh subscribers, he said.

This is expected to change the business dynamics for Asianet in Kerala even as the State is undergoing the third phase of cable digitalisation.

First Operator G Sankaranarayana, President and Chief Operating Officer, said Asianet will be the first operator to offer speeds of up to 50 mbps per subscriber in the State.

Asianet will now deliver differentiated experience to its subscriber homes by enabling high-speed broadband beyond 100 mbps on the same cable as digital broadcast channels.
