Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today said the threat of militancy will soon be eliminated from the country with all political parties demonstrating unity against terrorism after the Peshawar attack.

Sharif said the unity demonstrated by political parties after the Taliban attack on Peshawar school was the first step in eliminating terrorism.

He was speaking to a delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at his Raiwind residence near Lahore.

The Prime Minister stressed that the government was working to expedite delivery of justice.

On Wednesday, he lifted a self-imposed moratorium on death penalty in terror related cases, in place since 2008.

The UAE delegation expressed their sorrow over Tuesday’s massacre at the Army Public School in Peshawar that left 148 students and teachers dead.
