About 1,400 firms are ready to invest ₹11,549 crore in Andhra Pradesh, according to its Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
“Another 20 leading companies are also showing interest in investing in the State,” said the Chief Minister in a meeting on the development of industries in the State in Amaravati on Thursday.
Referring to advantages of investing in the State, Reddy said: “Andhra Pradesh has a coastline of 972 km with four ports and six airports. There is no scarcity of power for industries in the State.”
To cater to the water requirements of the industries, an exclusive water grid is also being developed. The government is ready to allocate land for those companies who are willing to set up operations in the State, said the CM.
Special Status
Reddy has brought the long-pending demand for special status for Andhra Pradesh to the forefront again by saying that the State government will continue to demand to Centre to accord special status.
“If not today, it (special status) will come tomorrow but we should not stop demanding for it,” he said. Had the Centre granted the special status, there would have been great incentives for the industries, he added.
The demand for special status has been there right from the bifurcation of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh in 2014 for creation of Telangana state.
