Andhra Pradesh government will be creating a platform under the Public-Private-People Partnership (P4) initiative to enable the wealthy to support the underprivileged.
The ‘Zero Poverty – P4’ program will be launched on Ugadi, March 30, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said after reviewing the preparations for the programme in the State Secretariat in Amaravati on Monday.
The participation in P4 is entirely voluntary, and no one should be pressured to contribute, Naidu said adding that the NRIs could also take part in this initiative, much like the Janmabhoomi program implemented during his previous tenure, which received widespread public support.
Government’s role
The platform is open to anyone willing to offer support, and the government’s role is only to connect donors with beneficiaries—no additional financial aid will be provided by the state.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to inspire the affluent to step forward and contribute as the donors who would be referred to as ‘Margadarsi’ (guides) while ensuring that the selection of beneficiaries, termed ‘Bangaru Kutumbam’ (Golden Families) was free from errors.
The final list of beneficiaries will be determined transparently through Gram Sabhas and Ward Sabhas to avoid disputes.
The proposed P4 is independent of the government’s welfare schemes and is aimed at uplifting the most disadvantaged sections of society and to eradicate poverty and improve living standards. In the first phase, 20 lakh families are expected to be benefited and the State Government plans to continue until the the goal of Zero Poverty is reached, according to Naidu.
