AP to seek Centre’s nod to sell Red Sanders wood

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, today said the State Government will seek Centre’s nod to sell Red Sanders wood which is in great demand in the international market.

About Rs 300-400 crore worth Red Sanders wood seized from smugglers in the State is now lying unutilised.

Speaking at the 63rd Vanamahotsav Day here today, Mr Reddy said the State-wide tree plantation drive seeks to plant 20-lakh saplings today. He kicked off the plantation drive at Maheswaram mandal close to the city.

He said taking up tree plantation was in the interest of people and every one in the society must seek to play a role in the attempt. For every tree chopped off at least ten new saplings must be planted and people must ensure that these survive to grow big.
