Air India crash: DNA sample of ex-Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani has matched; Body handed over to family

A total of 32 DNA samples, taken from the relatives of those killed in the Air India aircraft crash in Ahmedabad, have been matched till Sunday morning

The DNA samples of former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani — who was among the 241 passengers killed in Air India crash in Ahmedabad — has matched and his remains will be taken to his native at Rajkot. “Around 11.10 am, the DNA samples of Vijay Rupaniji matched,” said Harsh Sanghvi, Minister of State for Home, Gujarat government told mediapersons on Sunday afternoon.

A total of 14 bodies of those killed in the Air India aircraft disaster in Ahmedabad have been handed over to the relatives till Sunday Morning.

“The families from Udaipur, Vadodara, Kheda, Visnagar, Botad and Ahmedabad were those who took away the remains of their loved ones killed in the crash,” Rajnish Patel, additional superintendent, Ahmedabad Civil hospital told mediapersons.

A total of 32 DNA samples, taken from the relatives of those killed in the Air India aircraft crash in Ahmedabad, have been matched till Sunday morning, he added without specifying the number of bodies that have come to the hospital from the accident-site. Estimates put those killed in the June 12 aviation disaster at 270.
