The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today registered a First Information Report (FIR) in alleged Badaun (Uttar Pradesh) rape and murder case. Badaun is about 300 km from Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow.
According to the investigative agency, a CBI team of 20 officials from Delhi headed by a DIG (Deputy Inspector General) will leave for Uttar Pradesh tomorrow. The team will also include a forensic expert.
Nearly two weeks ago, in Badaun district, two teenage cousins, aged 14 and 15, were found hanging from a tree after they were allegedly gang-raped and murdered. This incidence sparked country-wide outrage and even Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned about it in his maiden speech in Parliament on Wednesday.
Uttar Pradesh Police has already registered a case against seven accused, of whom five – three brothers Pappu Yadav, Awadhesh Yadav and Urvesh Yadav, and constables Chhatrapal Yadav and Sarvesh Yadav – have been arrested.
The CBI announcement has come on a day when another similar incidence has been reported from Bahraich district of the state.
The local police said that body of a 45-year-old woman was found hanging from a tree here today after she was allegedly abducted and gang-raped. The semi-nude body of the victim was found hanging with a saree from a tree in Ranipur area of the district.
The police have arrested three persons in connection with this crime as the Uttar Pradesh Government promised quick action in the matter. Promising quick and fair probe, UP Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan, said, “Our officials are active and they have reached the spot. We will take action very soon. We assure you action will be taken.”
