Cochin International Airport Ltd has registered a 10 per cent growth in passenger traffic as the figures crossed five million in 2013-14 fiscal.
A notable feature is that international passengers exceed the domestic passengers, a trend which shows the potential of the airport.
The airport achieved 11.49 per cent growth in international passengers and 7.8 per cent in domestic passengers. It also recorded 47,072 aircraft movement, which was higher by 13.32 percent compared to last fiscal.
V.J. Kurian, Managing Director, CIAL, the company is aiming to make the airport a hub of air traffic in South India and to facilitate passengers with international class service at a cost-effective manner.
At present, 19 international carriers and six domestic carriers are operating services and together they operate 963 weekly schedules, which include 35 each to destinations like Sharjah and Dubai and 21 services to Abu Dhabi.
A.C.K.Nair, CIAL Director, said that the cargo division also recorded a 17 per cent growth during the period. CIAL handled 54,440 tonnes against 46,530.30 tonnes in the previous year. Perishable cargo has witnessed 22 per cent increase, thanks to the high end air-conditioned warehouse.
