Citing a memorandum from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Cyberabad Police Commissioner, Avinash Mohanty expressed concerns over the potential misuse of drones and similar aerial devices for attacks and unauthorised surveillance.

The police have prohibited the operation of aerial platforms within a 5 km radius of the State Secretariat Complex in Hyderabad and a 2 km radius of strategic vital installations.

The Ministry’s directive underscored the escalating trend of terrorist and antisocial elements utilising drones and paragliders to carry out attacks and disrupt public safety. It also noted the increasing use of drones for aerial photography and live telecasts, which could inadvertently compromise security protocols.

The police also barred the movement of drones in the vicinity of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) and surrounding areas. The order comes in response to a heightened security threat perception during the visit of Vice-President of India.

“Any person found violating this order will be liable for prosecution under relevant sections of the law,” he said.
