“This is a difficult day for all of us at Air India and our efforts are entirely focussed on the needs of our passengers, crew members, their families and loved ones,” said Air India MD & CEO Campbell Wilson in a video message, a little while after the horrific crash of an Air India flight, which was flying from Ahmedabad to Gatwick carrying 242 people on board, including passengers and crew.

It crashed minutes after take-off in the afternoon, coming down onto a medical college hostel just outside Ahmedabad airport.

Expressing sorrow over the event, Wilson said Air India was working with the authorities on all emergency response procedures and a special team of caregivers were in Ahmedabad to provide additional support. His video message was posted on Air India’s official handle on X.

He pointed out that investigations would take time “but anything we can do now, we are doing.” Air India has also set up special helplines where families and friends of those aboard the flight can seek information and support.

Wilson said that while people needed information, and the company would continue to disseminate timely and accurate information, “anything we report must be accurate and not speculative, we owe that to everyone involved.”

He added that Air India’s team were working around the clock to support passengers, crew, their families as well as the investigators, “however we can.”

ved ones," Wilson said.
