A Technopark-based company is promising to bring about a sea change in the way learning is conducted especially in schools in rural areas and remote locations.

IT and Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty on Tuesday launched the unique formula for effective e-learning developed by Oztern Technology.

Oztern claims the formula has the right mix of study content, adaptive learning technology and user engagement with gameplay mechanics.

It is designed to impart personalised learning which makes it possible to assess and understand individual student strength and weakness.

The innovative adaptive learning technology can deliver high quality content that is customised to meet a student’s specific needs.

It also analyses learning materials based on the concepts, relation between concepts, questions and difficulty levels and then split them into content parts.

The system then continuously monitors student activities and uses refined algorithms to build customised learning package from content parts.

SPECIAL FEATURE

The minister said the special feature was that the people who do not have Internet access could hope to access the technology.

“This will also make learning a truly personalised and self-paced experience for the students,” he added.

The Oztern technology continuously optimises learning and instructs content parts which a student is most ready to learn.

Saiju V. Stella, chief executive officer of Oztern, said that the coaching market in India that is worth $12 billion.

It has three main components — private tuitions at the K12 level; entrance test preparation and employment coaching.

This market is expected to grow 12 per cent every year but is highly fragmented or regional/localised in nature.

UMBRELLA SYSTEM

“Our effort is to bring this fragmented sector under one umbrella and thus bring in a radical change in the existing educational learning experience.”

This new e-learning system is implemented with adaptive learning technology based on artificial intelligence.

It acts as a personalised teacher, improving student skill levels progressively based on learning patterns.

The system rewards student achievements and motivates him/her to reach study goals within the available time.

“Our game play mechanics helps them to build competitive spirit and confidence in their learning,” Stella said.

Oztern has also built ‘educational gadgets’ embedded into the curriculum to drive the e-learning advantage in rural/semi-urban areas.

Latest courses/study materials can be accessed in the gadget through a unique cloud-gadget sync mechanism developed by Oztern.
