Amazon leads flood of job offers at IIMC; salaries rise

The final placement process was marked by the variety of roles offered.

The final placement process for the batch of 2012-14 of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) saw an increase in the international roles offered. The batch also witnessed a significant rise in compensation this year as compared to the previous year, defying a slowdown in the economy.

According to a press statement issued by IIM-C, the final placement process for 2014 was marked by an increase in the variety of roles being offered on campus.

International offers

The institute also saw the highest number of pre-placement offers (PPOs) in the management consulting domain across all IIMs from the top four management consulting firms, at 27.On an overall perspective, Amazon made the highest number of offers (16, including PPOs) on campus for various leadership and operations roles. Optiver, Alshaya, Protiviti, Mahindra Comviva, Airtel and Sharaf DG were among some of the key firms which offered international roles. Optiver, which is one of world’s largest high frequency and proprietary trading firms based out of the Netherlands, recruited exclusively from the B-school.

Consulting Firms

Consulting firms such as McKinsey & Co., The Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Co., A.T. Kearney, Accenture and Opera were among the key recruiters in the domain. BCG and Accenture Management Consulting made the highest number of offers in this domain at 12 each. Opera hired exclusively from IIM-C and made five offers, the release said. The batch of 2012-14 received one of the highest numbers of offers for the Investment Banking Divisions (IBD) of several banks. Firms such as Citi, BAML, Edelweiss and BNP Paribas hired for the IBD roles through both PPOs and final placements route.

Management, Marketing

General management roles were offered by groups such as TAS, Aditya Birla , Mahindra, Airtel, RIL, CK Birla and Cairn India among others. Some of the marketing firms which offered significant roles included HUL, P&G, ITC, Nestlé, Asian Paints, Alshaya, Mondelez, Dabur, PepsiCo, L’Oreal, Kellogg’s, Samsung, Emami, Mother Dairy, Johnson & Johnson among others

“We had a star attraction this time on campus in the form of Sourav Ganguly who came to recruit for a niche brand management and marketing role,” the release said.
