The Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has launched an android app called I-Become for youth here on Friday.

It is aimed at inculcating moral values and ethics into the youth and equipping them with life skills to take up career challenges. I-Become app is launched with assistance from the Rajkot-based Shri Ramkrishna Ashram. The app will provide daily tips using inspirational thoughts of Swami Vivekananda to transform their approach and beliefs about learning.

“GTU had started the Contributory Personality Development Programme (CPDP), aiming to transform the behaviour and approach of the students towards career. Ethics and values play the most important role in the education system,” said Navin Sheth, Vice-Chancellor of GTU, while launching the app.

GTU’s CPD Programme covers and evaluates the aspects related to personality development and behaviour of the students. Swami Sarvasthanandaji, Chairman of Shri Ramkrishna Ashram, Rajkot, who has been a key person behind the development of the mobile app, said the real benefits of digital India can be obtained by using digital platforms for value education. “The young generation has been using smartphones quite extensively. In this context, we chose a mobile app to spread Swami Vivekananda's inspirational thoughts and thereby inculcate useful life skills among the youth,” said the Swami. Currently, in English, the app will soon be available in Indian languages as well. Shrinivas Venkatram, CEO of Illumine Knowledge Resources, who provided technical support for the app, said, “The goal of the app is to significantly enhance the career connect of the CPD program into the lives of the students and help them strengthen the career planning and emerge stronger on the employability front. The I-Become app benefits students by allowing them to refine their thoughts and decide on their long-term career goal rather than run after short-term successes.”
