Hyderabad varsity student gets big offer from Japanese major

A computer science student who graduated from the University of Hyderabad on Saturday received a lucrative package from the Japanese major Works Application Co Ltd.

As many as 1,564 students graduated from the university this year.

₹40 lakh plus perks
The Tokyo-headquartered ERP system manufacturer offered ₹40 lakh a year in addition to other benefits to Ravichandra Mangipudi, an MCA from the School of Computer & Information Sciences, to work as an R&D engineer in its Singapore facility. The company has presence in Shanghai, Chennai, Los Angeles and New York, and has more than 2,800 employees worldwide.

The graduating students, included 99 gold medallists, who were awarded their degrees at the 18th convocation ceremony by chief guest Bibek Debroy, an economist and member of NITI Aayog.

‘Be the change’ Addressing the students, he pointed out that there was a growing economic gap between the rich and poor. “You are the elite youth of the country. Just 10 per cent of the country’s youth have access to higher education. So it’s up to you to bridge the divide and be the change,” Debroy said.

Giving life counsel to the graduating students, he said “Happiness and contentment comes from within you, and so you should compete with yourself and not others. India will not change because the government changes. India will change when you change it. I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I see young entrepreneurs coming up and it is that India which will make it change.”

Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor of the university, presented the awards.
