The Post Graduate Programme for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM) for 2013-14, hosted by IIM-Calcutta, has achieved 100 per cent placement record.

Average salary offered for the batch is Rs 14.75 lakh and the highest is Rs 22.5 lakh a year. The average salary marked an 11 per cent growth over the last year’s Rs 13 lakh a year.

The management-consulting firms led the way in terms of the total number of offers made to the candidates followed by automotive, general management, engineering and heavy engineering, infrastructure, supply chain, and IT companies.

For the 7th batch of the collaborative course among IIM-Calcutta and IIT Madras and Kanpur there were 38 students (of which 6 were sponsored).

This jointly conducted programme has an international dimension in the form of the students taking 2–3 weeks of industry visit in Japan for studying best manufacturing practices through Japan International Cooperation Agency.

In a statement, IIM-C said majority of offers came from TCS, CGN Consulting, Valcon Management Consultants, Accenture and KPMG. Daimler, Renault Nissan, TVS, Wheels India, L&T and Crane Flow were among the automotive and engineering firms to make offers. Reliance Cement, Dr. Reddy's Lab, and ABB Global Services also offered placements.

In this one-year programme, students go through multidisciplinary courses in technology and management at IIM Calcutta, IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras. To increase proximity among VLFM alumni, industry and academia, IIM-C has planned to organise the second collaborative meeting in New Delhi on September 27.

According to Partha Priya Datta, Chairperson, PGPEX-VLM, manufacturing is central to India’s economy and its long-term growth. “Companies are increasingly realizing the significance of executive education in the manufacturing sector”, he added.
