IIT-Madras sees 15 per cent jump in campus placements

Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-Madras) on Monday announced a record-breaking campus placement in the academic year 2018-19 with the placement of 964 of the 1,300 students registered for placements, including 97 students who got pre-placement offers (PPOs).

The placement marks a 15 per cent jump from the previous year’s placement of 834 students, including PPOs, said a press release from the Institute.

Increase in PPOs

A total of 136 PPOs were made during 2018-19, against the 114 in the preceding year, with offers from large firms such as Microsoft, Qualcomm and Goldman Sachs, the release added.

The institute said that the ‘Graduation Outcome Score’ is one of the major contributors to IIT-Madras bagging the no.1 position in ‘Engineering Category’ for the fourth consecutive time in India Rankings 2019 of the National Institutional Ranking Framework launched by the Ministry of Human Resources Development.

This year, IIT-Madras students received 1,146 offers (including 136 PPOs) from 298 companies that had registered for placements. Out of these, 21 were international offers.

The top five recruiters for the year are - Micron (26 offers), Intel India (26 offers), Citibank (23 offers), Microsoft (22 offers) and Qualcomm (21 offers), the release stated.

The release also added that 51 start-ups participated in the placements this year and made a total of 121 offers, out of which 97 were accepted. The leading sectors in start-up recruitment were information technology (21 per cent) followed by analytics (16 per cent).
