Think global, aspire and engage to emerge successful, advised the senior Vice President – Human Resources, TVS Motor Company V Kovaichelvan, addressing the students of Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET), Pollachi.

Speaking at the Industry-Institute Partnership Conclave, he said “a student spends more than 16 years in education, but the outcome has never fulfilled industry needs.

“Cognitive Learning” could be a saver in bridging this gap, but it should be scaled up to higher levels of taxonomy and extended to education at the school level as well.

The present engineering education has failed to focus on professional outcomes. There is therefore an urgent need to evolve and design courses that connect with industry needs. Academics alone would not suffice to emerge a role ready employee, he said.

And, in it bid towards bridging this gap, TVS Motors has inked an agreement with MCET, Pollachi by offering a Collaborative Education Programme.

The programme has been designed to assist students become role ready engineers with professional skills.

To impart hands-on training, TVS has collaborated with a number of institutions offering internship, training and sponsoring projects, Kovaichelvan said.

On the sidelines, he said that he is aiming to figure out possible ways of bridging the gap through long-term collaboration. “This industry attachment programme would help students connect to their classroom learning through real time applications.”
