Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to address an election rally in Imphal West district of Manipur, in support of BJP candidates for the ensuing Assembly polls. However, an apex body of six rebel groups in the state has called a “complete shutdown” on the day to protest Modi’s visit, saying it was aimed at “hoodwinking the people of Manipur”.
Revellers in large numbers are expected to descend on the streets of Panaji to mark the opening of the four-day Goa Carnival on Saturday. The state tourism department has organised float parades across all the major cities in the state during the festivities. Over 50,000 tourists are expected to arrive in Goa during the weekend to witness the carnival festivities.
Minister of State for External Affairs M J Akbar will travel to Tunisia on Sunday to hold talks with the Tunisian leadership, including President Beji Caid Essebsi, on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is expected to visit Gujarat on Sunday as the Aam Aadmi Party turns its focus on the state, which goes to Assembly polls later this year. AAP will gherao the office of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on February 26 and submit a memorandum to him listing the grievances of the people. Delhi Labour Minister Gopal Rai is also expected to visit the state along with Kejriwal.
