The Supreme Court is likely to issue orders on timelines for publication of the final Assam's National Register of Citizens. Earlier this week, the Centre told the Supreme Court that distinct IDs will be created by collecting biometric details of 40 lakh people filing claims and objections with respect to Assam’s National Register of Citizens. The second and final draft of the NRC showed 2.9 crore names out of the total 3.29 crore who applied in Assam.
The Reserve Bank of India will release the August minutes of its six-member monetary policy committee meeting. At its bi-monthly meet earlier this month, the MPC hiked repo rate by 25 basis points to rein in inflation pressures. Members of the committee voted 5-1 in favour of a hike.
MCX will launch rubber futures today. The exchange will offer four futures contracts in rubber with each ending September, October, November and December. Investors are allowed to trade in the rubber quality of ‘Ribbed Smoked Sheets 4 (RSS4)’ for a minimum lot size of one tonne with compulsory delivery option.
Two women , in their 20s, accused of killing Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korea's leader, by smearing toxic nerve agent VX on his face in February last year, face a key court ruling today. A Malaysian judge will judge will decide whether there is sufficient evidence to support a murder charge against Siti Aisyah from Indonesia and Doan Thi Huong from Vietnam. If so, the trial will continue with the court hearing the women’s defence. Alternatively if he decides there isn’t, he could clear the women or amend the charge to something less serious than murder, which carries a mandatory death sentence in Malaysia.
