Domestic products such as textiles and chemicals would get greater market access in Chile as the expanded preferential trade agreement between India and the South American nation comes into effect from Tuesday, May 16. Under the expanded preferential trade agreement (PTA), both the countries have offered to lower or eliminate duties on a number of items traded with each other. Chile has offered duty concessions on 1,798 goods including agri items, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, textiles, apparel, iron and steel items, copper machinery, to Indian exporters as compared to 178 items earlier. On the other hand, India has offered concessions to Chile on 1,031 products including meat items, fish, vegetable oil, processed food, pharma, plastic and pearls as against 296 earlier.

Xiaomi is to launch the Redmi 4 in India on Tuesday, May 16. The device is expected to be a budget phone, priced around Rs 8,000, that will make it one of the most expensive phones launched under the Redmi series. At the same time it will also mean that the Xiaomi Redmi 4 will be probably the cheapest phone in India with Snapdragon 625 processor. The Redmi 4, first announced in China last November, is the successor of the previously launched Redmi 3 and Redmi 3S phone.

A new round of United Nations-backed peace talks for war-ravaged Syria is set to begin in Geneva on Tuesday, the office of the UN mediator has said. The announcement comes days after regime backers Russia and Iran and rebel supporter Turkey signed a deal in the Kazakh capital Astana to strengthen a ceasefire agreed upon last December by implementing "de-escalation zones" where the government and opposition will halt hostilities. De Mistura, who was in Astana as an observer, hailed that deal as "an important, promising, positive step in the right direction" toward de-escalation.

A board meeting of Tata Steel on Tuesday will consider and take on record the audited standalone and unaudited consolidated financial statements and results for the quarter and the the financial year ended March 31, 2017; and recommend dividend, if any, for the financial year ended March 31, 2017. In accordance with the company's code for prevention of insider trading, the trading window for dealing in the company's securities was closed from March 25 and will open 48 hours after the financial results are declared to the Stock Exchanges.

Maruti Suzuki is to launch the new DZire. The model has been developed on Suzuki's Heartect platform. The petrol and diesel versions of the new DZire are 85 kg and 105 kg lighter respectively than the second generation Swift DZire ensuring higher fuel efficiency The new DZire will be targeted at aspirational individual buyers, whereas the DZire Tour will be peddled for sales in the taxi segment. Maruti Suzuki sold around 190,000 units of the DZire last fiscal. Of this, around 32000 units were sold in the taxi segment.
